It’s Monday! What are you Reading?

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

I am currently reading:

The House At Sea's End by Elly Griffiths Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie

The House at Sea’s End by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway #3) – This is a carryover from last week. I am about 20 pages from the end, so it will be done today!
See also: The Crossing Places and The Janus Stone

Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie – I have been meaning to read this series for some time. I am listening to the book since it was free from Audible, but there is something off about the narrator. Her voice seems a little too old for the character of Abby Cooper. I’m enjoying it enough, but I wonder if I would enjoy it more if I were reading it.

During the past week I finished reading:

Nothing!

Upcoming:

A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson

A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty – I have been hearing great things about Joshilyn Jackson. This will be my first time reading her.

Additional:

I was a sucker for bargain nook books last week. Poisoned Pen Press has 10 books marked down to $0.99 so I snapped up Artifacts by Mary Anna Evans and The Heat of the Moon by Sandra Parshall. I also bought the discounted A Faint Cold Fear by Karin Slaughter.

Have a great week, everyone!

I am currently reading:

The House At Sea's End by Elly Griffiths

The House at Sea’s End by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway #3) – I read the first two books in this series last year. This third installment focuses on Ruth learning how to balance work and a newborn baby. Of course there are some bones and a mystery to solve, too.

During the past week I finished reading:

Fallen by Karin Slaughter

Fallen by Karin Slaughter (Georgia #3) – Excellent! My review.

Upcoming:

Gideon's Corpse by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson

Maybe Gideon’s Corpse or A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty. It depends on what I am in the mood for after finishing up with Ruth Galloway. These are both NetGalley reads.

Mini Review: Fallen by Karin Slaughter (Georgia #3)

Fallen by Karin SlaughterRight after I wrote the post about how I was in a reviewing slump, I finished a book that prompted me to gush about it. Maybe this was just what I needed to get me out of my reviewing slump.

I found myself on a Karin Slaughter kick around New Year’s. The moment I finished Broken, I ran to the computer and checked out Fallen via Overdrive. Both books kept me joined at the hip to my nook. I nearly skipped fireworks and friends on New Year’s Eve because all I wanted was to get back to my book!

While reading the Georgia series, I found myself rooting for Will and Sara to get together. So much tension! What’s not to love about the wounded Will or the widowed Sara? Perhaps I would have a different perspective if I had read the Grant County series first and had a better understanding of Sara’s relationship with Jeffrey. But I didn’t. Thus, I longed for the Will and Sara hook up.

Warning: Spoiler!

2011 Reading Challenge Wrap-Up

2011 Reading ChallengeI set the goal for my 2011 Reading Challenge via Goodreads at 60 books. I exceeded my goal, reading 62 books! I began, but did not finish, two additional books.

I gave myself a teeny stretch goal to read 65 books in 2012.

When I started this blog last year, I was really excited to review books. I went crazy on NetGalley. I was having so much fun. As the year went on, I found it harder and harder to write reviews. I was still reading a lot, but I could not seem to find the time to sit down and write out a proper review. The last few months of 2011 primarily chronicled my reading via my “It’s Monday! What are you reading?” posts.

I am not sure where that leaves me going into 2012. Do I still want to review books? I love being part of the book blogging community. I just have a lot of commitments and hobbies – full-time job, 8 pets, gardening, knitting, DIYing around the house – and I have a hard time juggling everything.  I guess time will tell where I am headed, but I hope that you will stick with me while I figure it out.

Happy New Year!

It’s Monday! What are you Reading?

Happy New Year to everyone! I had big plans for getting stuff done around the house between Christmas and New Year’s, but I ended up doing more reading than DIYing.

I am currently reading:

Fallen by Karin Slaughter

Fallen by Karin Slaughter (Georgia #3) – I am on a Karin Slaughter kick. I finished Broken on New Year’s Eve and immediately started Fallen. The only problem is that I have now read the Georgia series before the Grant County series, so the big event that occurs in the Grant County series is spoiled for me. I have only read the first book in the Will Trent series. Maybe I will get all caught up in 2012.

During the past two weeks I finished reading:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Still Life with Crows by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund by Blaize Clement Broken by Karin Slaughter

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – The end of the book did not feel as strong as the first half or so, but I still loved it. (5 out of 5 stars)

Still Life with Crows by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (Pendergast #4) – This was another creepy read in the Pendergast series. I was so creeped out that I had to keep checking behind the shower curtain every time I walked into the bathroom. (4 out of 5 stars)

Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund by Blaize Clement (Dixie Hemingway #2) – This book was sort of depressing due to an elderly dachshund in declining health as well as some animal abuse. I hope the next one is a bit more uplifting. (4 out of 5 stars)

Broken by Karin Slaughter (Georgia #2) – I loved the tension between Sara and Will. (5 out of 5 stars)

On hold:

Crossed by Ally Condie

Crossed by Ally Condie – I was listening to the audiobook, borrowed from Overdrive, and then the holidays happened. The book expired. So this is on hold until it becomes available again.
