It’s Monday! What are you Reading?

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

I am currently reading:

Gideon's Corpse by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child The Drama-Free Office by Jim Warner & Kaley Klemp

Gideon’s Corpse by Douglas Preston & Lee Child – I love Preston & Child’s Pendergast series but not so much this Gideon Crew series. I nearly gave up on this book several times. The subject matter, which includes terrorists and a nuclear bomb, just aren’t my cup of tea. While I have not given up on it yet, I am reading it very slowly.

The Drama-Free Office by Jim Warner & Kaley Klemp – This title speaks for itself, no? My husband picked it up for me as a joke while at the library yesterday, but I must admit that I am intrigued.

During the past two weeks I finished reading:

The House At Sea's End by Elly Griffiths Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson Go the F**k to Sleep by Adam Mansbach

The House at Sea’s End by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway #3) – I started writing a review for this, but I have not completed it yet. (4 out of 5 stars)
See also: The Crossing Places and The Janus Stone

Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie – I really did not care for the narrator of this audiobook. She sounded too old for the character of Abby Cooper. I am not sure whether I would have liked the book better if I had read it. Abby Cooper’s way of detecting whether someone is lying is to hear, “Liar, liar, pants on fire,” in her head. After hearing it for the tenth time, it just seemed super cheesy. (2 out of 5 stars)

A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson – This was my first time reading Joshilyn Jackson, and I 100% loved all of it. I devoured the book in two days. I picked up an audiobook by Joshilyn Jackson yesterday. I hope that I love it just as much. (5 out of 5 stars)

Go the F**k to Sleep by Adam Mansbach – Last week I needed a pick-me-up, so I listened to six minutes of Samuel L. Jackson goodness. Twice! Hilarious! I have no children, so I can only relate to this in dog terms. My dog has been throwing 3am barking tantrums. Sometimes I just want to give in to her tantrums and let her out of her crate so I can get some f**king sleep. This was a good laugh, and Samuel L. Jackson is the perfect narrator. (5 out of 5 stars)

Upcoming:

Reviews! I hope!

Have a great week, everyone!

I am currently reading:

The House At Sea's End by Elly Griffiths Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie

The House at Sea’s End by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway #3) – This is a carryover from last week. I am about 20 pages from the end, so it will be done today!

Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye by Victoria Laurie – I have been meaning to read this series for some time. I am listening to the book since it was free from Audible, but there is something off about the narrator. Her voice seems a little too old for the character of Abby Cooper. I’m enjoying it enough, but I wonder if I would enjoy it more if I were reading it.

During the past week I finished reading:

Nothing!

Upcoming:

A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson

A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty – I have been hearing great things about Joshilyn Jackson. This will be my first time reading her.

Additional:

I was a sucker for bargain nook books last week. Poisoned Pen Press has 10 books marked down to $0.99 so I snapped up Artifacts by Mary Anna Evans and The Heat of the Moon by Sandra Parshall. I also bought the discounted A Faint Cold Fear by Karin Slaughter.

Have a great week, everyone!

I am currently reading:

The House At Sea's End by Elly Griffiths

The House at Sea’s End by Elly Griffiths (Ruth Galloway #3) – I read the first two books in this series last year. This third installment focuses on Ruth learning how to balance work and a newborn baby. Of course there are some bones and a mystery to solve, too.

During the past week I finished reading:

Fallen by Karin Slaughter

Fallen by Karin Slaughter (Georgia #3) – Excellent! My review.

Upcoming:

Gideon's Corpse by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty by Joshilyn Jackson

Maybe Gideon’s Corpse or A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty. It depends on what I am in the mood for after finishing up with Ruth Galloway. These are both NetGalley reads.

Happy New Year to everyone! I had big plans for getting stuff done around the house between Christmas and New Year’s, but I ended up doing more reading than DIYing.

I am currently reading:

Fallen by Karin Slaughter

Fallen by Karin Slaughter (Georgia #3) – I am on a Karin Slaughter kick. I finished Broken on New Year’s Eve and immediately started Fallen. The only problem is that I have now read the Georgia series before the Grant County series, so the big event that occurs in the Grant County series is spoiled for me. I have only read the first book in the Will Trent series. Maybe I will get all caught up in 2012.

During the past two weeks I finished reading:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Still Life with Crows by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund by Blaize Clement Broken by Karin Slaughter

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – The end of the book did not feel as strong as the first half or so, but I still loved it. (5 out of 5 stars)

Still Life with Crows by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (Pendergast #4) – This was another creepy read in the Pendergast series. I was so creeped out that I had to keep checking behind the shower curtain every time I walked into the bathroom. (4 out of 5 stars)

Duplicity Dogged the Dachshund by Blaize Clement (Dixie Hemingway #2) – This book was sort of depressing due to an elderly dachshund in declining health as well as some animal abuse. I hope the next one is a bit more uplifting. (4 out of 5 stars)

Broken by Karin Slaughter (Georgia #2) – I loved the tension between Sara and Will. (5 out of 5 stars)

On hold:

Crossed by Ally Condie

Crossed by Ally Condie – I was listening to the audiobook, borrowed from Overdrive, and then the holidays happened. The book expired. So this is on hold until it becomes available again.

I hope everyone is managing to fit in some reading during this busy time of year. I suppose that our holiday gift is that Clifford, or Big Red as we like to call him, has completed heartworm treatment and is able to play and enjoy life like a normal dog again. He won’t be declared heartworm-free until we can test him in about six months, but he has received clearance for normal activity. I suppose it is time to admit that Cliffie is probably our fourth dog. We have grown a bit attached to the rascal.

Oh! And our trainer informs us that he is probably not a staffie mix, but instead a red lacy dog. Now it all makes sense! A Texas hunting dog! No wonder he is far too interested in the kitties. (We are working on that last bit.)

I am currently reading:

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern Crossed by Ally Condie

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern – Oh my goodness! I love this book! I know it is super hyped, but the hype is well deserved. This book is making me want to shirk all responsibilities and just read, while at the same time I never want the story to end.

Crossed by Ally Condie – I am happy to finally catch up with Ky, Cassia and Xander.

During the past two weeks I finished reading:

Seizure by Kathy Reichs Brute Strength by Susan Conant

Seizure by Kathy Reichs – This second Virals book is less science and more pirate adventure! I have enjoyed this series quite a bit and will continue with the books as they become available. (4 out of 5 stars)

Brute Strength by Susan Conant – I love this series. It makes me feel like I am not alone in the category of crazy animal person – even if Holly, Steve, their five dogs and one cat are fictional characters. (5 out of 5 stars)

Upcoming:

The House at Sea's End by Elly Griffiths

The House at Sea’s End by Elly Griffiths – I enjoyed the first two books in this series and look forward to the third.

Happy Holidays to you all!
