It’s Monday! What are you Reading?

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

What can I say? I haven’t found a lot of time to write blog entries. We are still trying to find a home for Clifford, the stray dude, that showed up a month ago. We have spent a lot of time keeping him separate from our dogs and working to socialize him a bit through walks. We introduced him to one of our resident pack members this evening and it went OK. Cliff is one young hyper dude, and he is still learning manners, so we are taking things very slowly.

I am currently reading:

The Best American Mystery Stories 2011 Room by Emma Donoghue Wicked Witch Murder by Leslie Meier

The Best American Mystery Stories 2011 – I have read a few stories in this collection and enjoyed them. The book is out tomorrow. I fully intended to have it read before the publish date, but life got in the way.

Room by Emma Donoghue – I was invited to join a book club with Room as the inaugural book. Unfortunately, I just got it from the library yesterday and only have a week to read it. My track record lately isn’t looking so good. I have heard great things about this book, so I am happy to finally read it – book club or not.

Wicked Witch Murder by Leslie Meier – I was in the mood for a fluffy Halloween type book, and it was available as an e-book from the library. It’s been a quick read so far.

During the past two weeks I finished reading:

Curiosity Thrilled the Cat by Sofie Kelly

Curiosity Thrilled the Cat by Sofie Kelly – Magical cats seemed sort of hokey, but there was a librarian and the book received good reviews so I gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised! I plan to (eventually) read the second in the series, Sleight of Paw. (4 out of 5 stars)

Upcoming:

I am holding off on any of the NetGalley books I have been approved for since I can’t seem to find the time to write a proper review. Hopefully by being noncommittal, I will actually finish some things.

Have a great week!

  1. I just read Room a few weeks ago. You can definitely finish it in a week – it goes by fast. I just finished Brave New World and will be starting The Submission.

  2. HarlanC has been the go to recommended author this year, I must read him before the year is out. I am intrigued by Room but haven’t read it,

I finished a horror, need to write review.

Net galley is hard to keep up on ain’t it. Have a great week.

  3. I seem to have a similar problem with the reviews; that is, finding time to write them. I’m still reading but the reviews are getting backlogged.

I was hoping The Best American Mysteries would be released in audio. Short stories work well as an audio book but so far it’s not available.

    • Drat! Too bad it’s not available on audiobook. I am also reading, although slower than usual, but I can’t seem to find time to write those reviews. The further I get from finishing the book, the harder it seems to write about it. 😦

      • That is so true! I saved a couple spooky ones to post Halloween week but I didn’t write complete reviews yet. It would have been easier to write them when I finished a few weeks ago.

  4. Thanks for coming by. Room was such an emotional read, I hope you are enjoying it. I have only read one Meier, but it was a fun read too. Glad to hear you are enjoying it. =D

    • Gosh, I’m enjoying the Meier book so much that I haven’t been back to Room. I should finish the Meier book today, so then I can get back to Room.

  5. My reading and reviewing is slowing down too but I’m trying to get back on track. Room is a fast read, and I’m curious to see what you think of it. Wicked Witch Murder sounds fun. Glad you are enjoying it!
